the handle and striking head are both hollow, each thrown on the wheel in one piece before spikes were attached and the two parts connected by the spiked chain. left mostly unglazed, this flail remains fully functional and the chain is completely flexible and weight-bearing. the flail, traditionally hardy and durable to withstand brutal battles, is transformed into a delicate and fragile porcelain sculpture that will shatter upon use.
